Prof. Per-Ingvar Brånemark The story of osseointegration in rabbit thighs

During the research, Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark conducted experiments on rabbits by placing titanium rods into the rabbit's femur. 

Brånemark found that the titanium could not be removed because it had integrated tightly with the spinal tissue, forming a strong bond that did not cause inflammation or rejection from the body.

From there he created Definition of the term “osseointegration”. This invention of osseointegration by Professor Branemark opened a new era for modern implant dentistry.

The First Implant Placed in a Human and the Formation of

Gösta Larsson in Gothenburg, Sweden, a toothless patient, was the first person in the world to receive an implant placed by Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark.
 
After extensive clinical trials and years of additional research, Brånemark founded Nobelpharma, the precursor of Nobel Biocare, which is now a leader in dental implant products.
